Minister for State Development, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel

Minister for State Development John Mickel today witnessed the signing of a multi-million dollar joint venture between Gold Coast-based Swagman Motorhomes and Chinese consortium Yihong Group Investments Co Ltd.

The $100 million agreement, which was sealed at Parliament House this afternoon, will see Swagman luxury motorhomes on the road in China next year.

“As a result of this joint venture, an iconic Queensland product will enter one of the world’s most lucrative markets,” said Mr Mickel who last week launched Swagman’s Next Generation range of motorhomes at the company’s Labrador headquarters.

“Swagman and Yihong Group Investments plan to purchase land and build a factory for the construction of vehicles in China.

“Swagman will export parts in kit form to China, the motorhomes assembled at the factory will be sold to the Chinese market.”

Mr Mickel said that Swagman, which was established in 1984, is Australia’s largest manufacturer of A-class motorhomes.

The company had recently been awarded an $85,500 Queensland Industry Development Scheme grant.

“Swagman is a classic Queensland success story and in keeping with our Smart State aspirations, the company is highly innovative,” the Minister said.

“The New Generation range features a patented carbon fibre/Kevlar ‘Armourshell’ and orders have been placed for the next 12 months.

“The opportunity to do business in China really launches the company on a global level and there has also been interest from the United States and Saudi Arabia.”
