Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister Assisting the Premier in Western Queensland
The Honourable Kerry Shine
Quality services assured for HerveyBay people with a disability
Hervey Bay Community Access is the first local organisation to be certified through the Queensland Government’s Disability Sector Quality System.
Acting Disability Services Minister Kerry Shine congratulated the organisation for its effort in gaining certification, which would ensure it continued to deliver high-quality services to regional people with a disability and their families.
“The Disability Sector Quality System requires all services funded or operated by Disability Services Queensland (DSQ) to meet 10 standards designed to improve the delivery of disability services,” Mr Shine said.
“These standards address the issues that affect people’s lives such as service access, decision making, individual needs and rights to privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
“Achieving certification is a significant milestone for Hervey Bay Community Access. I’m sure the local community is already benefiting from the changes the organisation has introduced.”
Member for Hervey Bay Andrew McNamara said Hervey Bay Community Access helped regional people with a disability develop learning and life skills to enhance their day-to-day wellbeing.
“The organisation receives $926,991 in recurrent funding to support about 55 clients,” Mr McNamara said.
“It is one of three local services that receives and coordinates emergency response funding in the Wide Bay-Burnett region.”
Mr Shine said the Disability Sector Quality System encouraged service providers to review their current systems and address areas that could be improved.
“The system is accredited under the JAS-ANZ (Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand) standard, an independent audit process that is impartial, transparent and internationally recognised.”
