CAROLS IN THE CITY BRINGS CHRISTMAS JOY AND JINGLES TO BRISBANE

Premier Peter Beattie has encouraged people to celebrate the spirit of Christmas at Brisbane’s new principal Christmas carols event, Carols in the City, to be held on Friday 15 December at Riverstage, City Botanic Gardens.

The event, presented by the City Tabernacle Baptist Church and supported by the Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council.

Premier Beattie said the carols provided a wonderful opportunity for the people of South East Queensland to celebrate Christmas.

“What better way to celebrate Christmas than to join together with family and friends and enjoy an evening of festive entertainment, and sing along to some of your favourite Christmas carols,” Mr Beattie said.

“To be able to do all of this outdoors on a perfect summer evening is a great way to celebrate Christmas in true Queensland style.

“The Queensland Government, along with Brisbane City Council, is proud to support the City Tabernacle Baptist Church in providing a free community Christmas carols event for everyone to enjoy.”

The carols will feature a line-up of popular Australian artists including James Morrison, Marina Prior, Silvie Paladino, Colin Buchanan, Nathan Tasker, Barrie Gott and the Queensland Pops Orchestra, and the Harvest Rain Theatre Company.

The first 8,000 people to attend the event will receive a free CD compilation featuring Carols in the City artists.

The carols will commence at 7.30pm, with pre-entertainment beginning at 6pm. Admission to the event is free, however as places are limited, it is recommended guests arrive early to ensure they secure a space. Gates open at 5pm.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the venue. Eskies, glass items and folding chairs are prohibited at Riverstage.

The event will be telecast on Network Ten on Monday, 25 December 2006.
