Minister for Communities, Disability Services, Seniors and Youth
The Honourable Warren Pitt
$1.1 million to help improve disability service delivery
Queensland’s disability service providers will receive vital training to improve service delivery and client support, thanks to a Queensland Government grant of $1,165,000.
Disability Services Minister Warren Pitt said the one-off funding package would be split between three major training organisations to help them deliver training programs throughout 2007–08.
Mr Pitt said Directions Australia would get $675,000 to help with the management of community services, information and technology, and occupational health and safety, as well as specialist disability training.
Commerce Queensland had been allocated $315,000 to provide community services management, while the Multicultural Disability Advocacy Association would receive $175,000 to deliver cultural awareness training.
“These three organisations will provide training throughout the 10 Disability Services Queensland regions, helping to develop the skills and knowledge of staff at all levels,” Mr Pitt said.
“This funding will give staff greater access to training opportunities, particularly those in rural and remote areas or where there may be limited access to training providers.
“Ultimately, however, this boost in training will benefit people with a disability, who will receive better support and service delivery, especially those with specialised and diverse needs.
”I am committed to ensuring that organisations and staff working in the disability sector get the necessary training and assistance to help them provide the best possible service to our clients,” he said.
