Minister for Emergency Services
The Honourable Pat Purcell
The new Narangba ambulance station was today officially opened by Emergency Services Minister Pat Purcell and Member for Kallangur Ken Hayward.
Mr Purcell said the new station would be a great boost for the local community and for paramedics.
“The new $1.8 million station provides our hard-working paramedics with a state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility,” Mr Purcell said.
Mr Purcell thanked Mr Hayward for his ongoing commitment to emergency services in the region.
“The completion of this new state-of-the-art facility will ensure our ambulance officers in the Narangba area can continue to act as the frontline for emergency pre-hospital care,” Mr Hayward said.
“Narangba and surrounding areas are expected to continue growing rapidly in coming years.
“This new station is of a standard that meets the requirements of a 21st century ambulance service and provides the community with a modern ambulance facility to serve the growing local population.
“Our paramedics do amazing work. They play a vital role in the community, and it’s essential they have the best equipment, facilities and training possible,” Mr Hayward said.
Mr Purcell said, “The Queensland community consistently votes paramedics as the most trusted profession. This vote of confidence is testament to the professionalism and devotion to community service by Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics.
“The new station is an example of the Queensland Government’s commitment to ensuring our ambulance service is well resourced to continue its great work.
“This financial year the Beattie Government allocated $40.3 million for capital works for the QAS, which includes funding for five new stations and the replacement/redevelopment of 18 other ambulance stations and one residence.
“The Beattie Government has more than doubled the funding for the QAS, with its budget rising by more than $200 million since the last year of the Coalition government in 1997-98,” Mr Purcell said.
The Narangba station has been built to accommodate future increases in the number of staff and vehicles operating from it.
The station became operational on October 30. The crews for the station were operating out of the Deception Bay ambulance station while the Narangba station was being built.
