Minister for Mines and Energy
The Honourable Geoff Wilson
$20 million boost for Dalby’s electricity supply
State Government-owned power provider Ergon Energy will spend $20 million rebuilding the Dalby bulk supply substation to boost supply to the region.
Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson said the project would triple the capacity of the existing substation to meet the growing needs of the region.
“The rebuilt substation will improve the electricity supply to 7,500 customers in and around Dalby,” Mr Wilson said.
“The substation is the backbone of the region’s electricity network and supplies power to eight distribution substations.
“The region stands to significantly gain with three times the capacity and a completely rebuilt station with state of the art equipment and the latest technology,” he said.
Ergon Energy is planning to build the new substation on land beside the existing substation on the Warrego Highway in the eastern outskirts of Dalby.
The Minister said the substation would have two transformers.
“The project comes hot on the heels of the $12 million rebuild of the Dalby Central distribution substation,” Mr Wilson said.
“The Dalby Central distribution substation is now in the final stages of planning,” he said.
The design for the new bulk supply station is expected to be finalised in the new year and Ergon Energy expects the project to be completed by the end of 2008.
