Premier and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Peter Beattie

BEATTIE CONGRATULATES RUDD

Premier Peter Beattie congratulated Kevin Rudd for his resounding win in the leadership ballot for the Federal Parliamentary Labor Party.

Mr Beattie said he was confident that Australians would support Mr Rudd at the next Federal election.

“The Howard Government is stale and as a result growth in our nation is stalling,”Mr Beattie said.

“Kevin brings fresh ideas and a fresh approach.

“With a unified team behind him he can provide the platform to stimulate the economy, throw out the unfair dismissal laws and boost social services to members of our community that have been neglected by the Howard Government.”

Mr Beattie said the win was also good news for Queensland.

“Kevin is a Queenslander and he will provide a strong voice for us down in Canberra,” Mr Beattie said.

“He knows we are the fastest growing State in the country and the challenges of that growth.

“The Howard Government has failed miserably.

“If Kevin is elected Prime Minister we can be confident that there will be more funding to Queensland for vital infrastructure such as the Ipswich Motorway.”

Mr Beattie congratulated Kim Beazley for the magnanimous way he had handled the defeat and put the best interests of the Labor Party first.

“Kim will be a key member of a future Rudd Government and his knowledge and experience will be invaluable,” Mr Beattie said.
