A Gympie organisation will share in a $3.2 million State Government initiative to provide accommodation support services to people with a disability.

Disability Services Minister Warren Pitt said $380,162 had been allocated to the Endeavour Foundation’s Gympie cluster as part of the statewide scheme.

Mr Pitt said the funding initiative, announced to coincide with International Day of People with a Disability yesterday, would allow six non-government organisations to provide accommodation support services to 61 people who were most in need.

“This multi-million dollar commitment is part of Disability Services Queensland’s Strengthening Non-Government Organisations (SNGO) strategy,” he said.

“Non-government organisations deliver quality services to Queenslanders with a disability, but demand for their services is very high, especially for supported accommodation.

“In fact, supported accommodation has long been one of the most pressing needs for people with a disability.

“The additional funding will allow community organisations to offer a wide range of extra accommodation services to suit various needs including long-term, short-term, crisis and in-home support.”

Mr Pitt said this funding was one of several SNGO initiatives designed to increase services for people with a disability.

“The Queensland Government is committed to ensuring a fairer go for people with a disability, their families and carers,” he said.
