The Honourable Margaret Keech
TOURISM STRATEGY AVAILABLE ONLINE
Queensland’s tourism industry has a clear direction for the next 10 years, Tourism Minister Margaret Keech announced today as she officially launched the Beattie Government’s Queensland Tourism Strategy (QTS).
Mrs Keech used the annual conference of Regional Tourism Organisations in Brisbane to thank the industry for its contribution to development of the $48 million strategy.
“The Beattie Government released a draft of the QTS in June this year, allowing industry to provide further feedback,” she said.
“From this feedback we have now developed a clear and concise plan for the future of Queensland tourism.
‘The QTS is unique to Queensland in that it addresses the issues affecting the state’s $16.7 billion tourism industry from a ground level up.
“We have given industries and organisations that benefit both directly and indirectly from tourism the opportunity to steer the direction of the Strategy.
“What we now have available online is a blueprint that heralds an exciting new era for tourism in Queensland.”
Mrs Keech said the QTS was available online at www.qldtourismstrategy.com.au. Hard copies of the QTS are available by contacting tourism.strategy@dtftwid.qld.gov.au or telephoning +61 7 3225 2765.
“Over the next decade, the QTS will deliver increased employment, visitor spending, domestic visitor market share and contribution to the state’s Gross State Product,” she said.
“With a national downturn in domestic tourism, the Beattie Government has been dedicated to safeguarding the industry from external forces.
“You will hear more and more over the following year about subsidies, investment opportunities, infrastructure developments and industry advancements that are rolling out of the QTS.
