QUEENSLAND SCOOPS POOL AT NATIONAL EXPORT AWARDS

Queensland’s strong export culture was again in the spotlight last night when four Queensland companies won national acclaim at the Australian Export Awards 2006.

Premier and Minister for Trade Peter Beattie congratulated local victors – The Botanical Food Company, Mincom, Ausenco and Barrier Reef Pools – as well as other Queensland finalists.

“This is a mighty effort from Queensland companies which won more export awards than companies from any other state,” Mr Beattie said.

“Exports are vital to our economic wellbeing and continued jobs growth so it is pleasing to see Queensland companies confidently selling their products internationally.”

Mr Beattie said Ausenco, based at Eight Mile Plains, won the ‘National Exporter of the Year Services Award’.

Established in 1991, Ausenco specialises in providing engineering, construction and project management services to the global mining and minerals processing industry.

“Ausenco offers services in all aspects of project development from concept design through project execution to ongoing operations and maintenance,” Mr Beattie said.

“It has an international presence in the Americas, Africa, Asia and Oceania and export sales now account for a considerable portion of its revenue.

“Considering Ausenco’s impressive exporting history, it is no surprise to hear that the company won this same award in 2002 and 2004.”

Mincom Ltd, an international company based in Brisbane, has further enhanced Queensland’s Smart State credentials by taking out the ‘National Exporter of the Year Information and Communications Technology Award’.

“Mincom is a major global solution provider specialising in Enterprise Asset Management for asset-intensive organisations in mining, utilities, transport, defence and government,” Mr Beattie said.

“It is Australia’s largest commercial software developer, has customers in more than 40 countries and has 18 offices throughout Australia, North and South America, South East Asia, Africa, and Europe.”

The Premier also praised Sunshine Coast Food Manufacturer the Botanical Food Company which won the ‘National Exporter of the Year Agribusiness Award’.

“The Botanical Food Company evolved in the mid 1990s when two leading Australian food scientists discovered a unique process to capture and store fresh chopped herbs and spices under refrigeration,” Mr Beattie said.

“They were inspired by the short season for fresh herbs and the compromised flavour of dried herbs and now supply their range, Gourmet Garden, to the fresh produce section of more than 13,000 supermarkets around the world.”

Mr Beattie said Barrier Reef Pools, winner of the ‘National Exporter of the Year Regional Exporter Award’, is a family run business employing more than 100 people at its Beaudesert factory.

“Barrier Reef Pools is a Smart State success story, having grown over the last six years to become Australia’s largest fibreglass pool manufacturer and distributor.

“The company employs the latest in production techiques and technologies, and is a dominant player in the fibreglass industry, exporting its products to the United States, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, New Zealand and Cyprus.”
