Minister for Communities, Disability Services, Seniors and Youth
The Honourable Warren Pitt

Gold Coast community organisations receive funds

Twelve community organisations on the Gold Coast will share in more than $50,000 of Queensland Government funding to enhance their services.

The Minister for Communities, Warren Pitt, said a total of $505,564 was being provided to community organisations across Queensland under the Department of Communities’ Supporting Community Organisations Funding Initiative.

“The funding will benefit around 120 community organisations statewide to make a range of one-off purchases, such as replacing ageing equipment, carrying out minor repairs, or undertaking small or low cost projects,” Mr Pitt said.

The successful community organisations within the Gold Coast region are:

·Beenleigh and District Special Needs Support Group

·Calvary Lighthouse

·Connect the Coast Association

·First Foundation for Independence Recreation and Social Training

·Gold Coast Advocacy

·Gold Coast Centre Against Sexual Violence

·Hopewell Hospice Services

·Main Beach Progress Association

·Mental Health Association (Qld)

·Ozcare

·Queensland Police-Citizens Youth Welfare Association

·Twin Rivers Community Care Association

Mr Pitt said the funds would be used in variety of local activities.

“For example, the Connect the Coast Association will buy a heavy duty lawn mower and mulcher so that they can continue to provide gardening and home maintenance services for war widows and the frail aged, while the Twin Rivers Community Care Association will run a local work and training opportunities expo.”

“This funding is another example of how the Queensland Government is helping to support and strengthen non government organisations,” Mr Pitt said.
