Minister for Communities, Disability Services, Seniors and Youth
The Honourable Warren Pitt

Wide Bay-Burnett community organisations receive funds

Fourteen community organisations in the Wide Bay-Burnett region will share in over $50,000 of Queensland Government funding to enhance their services.

The Minister for Communities, Warren Pitt, said a total of $505,564 was being provided to community organisations across Queensland under the Department of Communities’ Supporting Community Organisations Funding Initiative.

“The funding will benefit around 120 community organisations statewide to make a range of one-off purchases, such as replacing ageing equipment, carrying out minor repairs, or undertaking small or low cost projects,” Mr Pitt said.

The successful community organisations in the Wide Bay-Burnett region are:

·Anderleigh Rural Fire Brigade

·Bauple Rural Fire Brigade

·Bundaberg District Toy Library for Children with Special Needs

·Glenwood Rural Fire Brigade

·Graham House Community Centre Association

·Gunalda and District Campdraft Association

·Gundy Social and Sporting Club

·Hervey Bay City Council

·Hervey Bay Council for the Arts

·Hervey Bay Meals on Wheels

·The Baptist Union of Queensland

·The Eidsvold Aboriginal Housing and Community Development Society

·Tinnanbar Rural Fire Brigade

·Volunteer Marine Rescue Round Hill Association

Mr Pitt said the funds would be used in variety of local activities.

“For example, the rural fire brigades will upgrade various pieces of their equipment, while the Baptist Union of Queensland will purchase a welder for the metal fabrication and mechanical skills courses that they offer to disadvantaged local youth.”

“This funding is another example of how the Queensland Government is helping to support and strengthen non government organisations,” Mr Pitt said.
