The Honourable Warren Pitt

North Queensland community organisations receive funds

Eight community organisations in the North Queensland region will share in more than $50,000 of Queensland Government funding to enhance their services.

The Minister for Communities, Warren Pitt, said a total of $505,564 was being provided to community organisations across Queensland under the Department of Communities’ Supporting Community Organisations Funding Initiative.

“The funding will benefit around 120 community organisations statewide to make a range of one-off purchases, such as replacing ageing equipment, carrying out minor repairs, or undertaking small or low cost projects,” Mr Pitt said.

The successful community organisations within the North Queensland region are:

·Australian Red Cross Society

·Balgal Beach Boating and Leisure Club

·ChartersTowers Neighbourhood Centre

·Children’s Advocacy & Resource Association

·Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council

·North Queensland Prisoners' Aid Society

·Richmond Early Education Centre

·The Creche and Kindergarten Association of Queensland

Mr Pitt said the funds would be used in variety of local activities.

“For example, the Doomadgee Shire Council will deliver three significant social and sporting activities in their community, while the Australian Red Cross will purchase equipment to enhance both their Palm Island Night Café and their disaster and emergency response services.”

“This funding is another example of how the Queensland Government is helping to support and strengthen non government organisations,” Mr Pitt said.
