Minister for Communities, Disability Services, Seniors and Youth
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Mackay and Whitsunday community organisations receive funds
Thirteen community organisations in the Mackay-Whitsunday region will share in nearly $50,000 of Queensland Government funding to enhance their services.
The Minister for Communities, Warren Pitt, said a total of $505,564 was being provided to community organisations across Queensland under the Department of Communities’ Supporting Community Organisations Funding Initiative.
“The funding will benefit around 120 community organisations statewide to make a range of one-off purchases, such as replacing ageing equipment, carrying out minor repairs, or undertaking small or low cost projects,” Mr Pitt said.
The successful community organisations within the Mackay-Whitsunday region are:
·Calen Day Care Centre
·Dingo Beach Progress Association
·Dysart Community Support Group
·Healthier Bowen Shire Partnership
·Lifeline Community Care Queensland
·Mackay and DistrictAustralianSouthSea Islander Association
·Moranbah and District Support Services Association
·Sarina Shire Council
·Sarina Surf Life Saving Club
·Self Help Queensland
·St John Ambulance Australia (Qld)
·Whitsunday Shire Council
·Yalboroo Community Hall Association
Mr Pitt said the funds would be used in variety of local activities.
“For example, the Dysart Community Support Group will set up a community exchange bookshop, while the Sarina Shire Council will purchase musical equipment and develop performance opportunities for local young people.”
“This funding is another example of how the Queensland Government is helping to support and strengthen non government organisations,” Mr Pitt said.
