The Honourable Warren Pitt

Darling Downs-South West community organisations receive funds

Eleven community organisations in the Darling Downs-South West Queensland region will share in nearly $50,000 of Queensland Government funding to enhance their services.

The Minister for Communities, Warren Pitt, said a total of $505,564 was being provided to community organisations across Queensland under the Department of Communities’ Supporting Community Organisations Funding Initiative.

“The funding will benefit around 120 community organisations statewide to make a range of one-off purchases, such as replacing ageing equipment, carrying out minor repairs, or undertaking small or low cost projects,” Mr Pitt said.

The successful community organisations within the Darling Downs-South West Queensland region are:

  • Alzheimer's Australia Darling Downs and South West
  • Advocates for Survivors of Child Abuse
  • Association of Independent Retirees
  • Council of the Shire Warwick
  • HHELP Darling Downs
  • Leichhardt Villa
  • Murilla Community Centre
  • Southern Downs Industry Education Association
  • The Young Mens Christian Association of Stanthorpe
  • Toowoomba Children's Contact Centre
  • Young Women's Place

Mr Pitt said the funds would be used in variety of local activities.

“For example, Alzheimer's Australia will purchase equipment that will allow them to deliver dementia information programs to the local community, while Young Women’s Place will conduct a transition program to help young people move out of homelessness into independent living.”

“This funding is another example of how the Queensland Government is helping to support and strengthen non government organisations,” Mr Pitt said.
