New transformer for Fraser Coast

A new 100 megawatt transformer at the Maryborough substation is up and running.

Minister for Mines and Energy Geoff Wilson said the transformer would provide the Fraser Coast with an increased and more reliable electricity supply.

“The Maryborough substation supplies power to around 40,000 customers across the Fraser Coast,” Mr Wilson said.

“We’re at the half way stage of the Fraser Coast upgrade.

“A second transformer is on its way and is expected to be installed next year,” he said.

Member for Hervey Bay Andrew McNamara said the new transformer would help meet increasing demand in a fast-growing region.

“The Fraser Coast is one of the boom growth areas of Queensland,” Mr McNamara said.

“People are attracted to our relaxed lifestyle, educational and employment opportunities.

“The project will almost triple the existing capacity of the Maryborough substation and will strengthen the entire Fraser Coast network.

“This comes hot on the heels of the Rocky Street and Pt Vernon substation upgrades and is part of a $250 million investment in new infrastructure being rolled out over the 2005-2010 period in the Wide Bay,” he said.
