Minister for Communities, Disability Services, Seniors and Youth
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Disability Services Minister Warren Pitt says a Liberal MP’s claim that he misled Parliament is “complete nonsense”.
“I look forward to outlining to the Members’ Ethics and Parliamentary Privileges Committee how this accusation is totally untrue, and nothing more than a deliberate slur”, Mr Pitt said.
The accusation has been made by the Liberal Member for Currumbin, Ms Jann Stuckey, and has been referred to the Ethics and Privileges Committee of the Parliament.
It centres on whether Mr Pitt had agreed to be interviewed by A Current Affair as a follow-up to its story on a Gold Coast family whose daughter has autism.
“I stand by what I advised the Parliament – and that is that I had offered to take up A Current Affair’s request to appear on their program, but on the condition that they set the record straight on their dishonest and misleading reports on the issue,” Mr Pitt said.
“The facts will make it perfectly clear that the claim that I misled the Parliament is ridiculous.
“This is just dirty politics on the part of Ms Stuckey. She is cynically abusing the Parliamentary process in making this claim.
“Ms Stuckey was clearly working hand in glove with A Current Affair when they went to air with their dishonest claim that I had misled the Parliament. It is evident that is still the case.
“It is a pity that Ms Stuckey is unable to bring to her role as Opposition spokesperson for disability services the credibility and integrity it requires.”
