Watching out for his schoolies mates scores Adrian a Kodak digital camera

A Springwood High School student has won a 2006 Schoolies Week website competition organised by the Department of Communities.

The Minister for Communities, Warren Pitt, presented Adrian Gibbs with his prize, a Kodak digital camera and memory card, during a visit to Gold Coast Schoolies Week.

Mr Pitt said the web-based competition called Play Wise and Win was part of the education and awareness campaign run by the department to ensure schoolies was a safe celebration.

“We have spent a lot of time and money over the years raising awareness among schoolies about the need for safe celebrations,” Mr Pitt said.

“The Schoolies Week website was one part of the campaign which aims to make Schoolies Week a time that young people will look back on with happy memories – not regrets.

“The competition required entrants to read through the top 12 safety tips, and then arrange them in order of personal importance.

“There was also a blank area where entrants could suggest their own safety messages for other schoolies.

“Adrian’s entry was chosen randomly from the numerous entries submitted to the website, but his suggestion to ‘watch out for others who may be in danger’ was a very worthy addition to the list.

“Safe celebrations are about being careful yourself and watching out for your mates, but they are also about watching out for others,” Mr Pitt said.
