SPENCE: NEW CABOOLTURE POLICE DISTRICT HQ LEASE AGREED

Police Minister Judy Spence has announced the CBD location for the new Caboolture Police District Headquarters.

Ms Spence and the Member for Glasshouse, Carolyn Male, said today that the terms and conditions had now been agreed for police to lease the building at 21 King Street.

Ms Spence said the second floor of the existing building that houses the Commonwealth Bank will be redeveloped to house the new police facility.

“Police have been negotiating on a number of CBD sites for some months, and I am pleased to announce agreement is now in place for the King Street office,” Ms Spence said.

“Police believe this site suits all of their needs in terms of providing a central location, good access and good visibility in the community.

“The building will need to undergo refurbishment by both the landlord and police to provide suitable accommodation for the officers.

“These works will occur before the District Officer and key support staff can move into the new premises.”

Ms Spence said the Queensland Police Service had decided to lease a premises rather than build a new facility in the Caboolture CBD in order to set up the new District Headquarter offices more quickly.

Ms Spence said the new district would bring more police officers to the area.

“The new headquarters will accommodate the new District Office, as well as some district support functions such as Crime Manager, Tactician, District Crime Prevention Coordinator and the District Domestic Violence Liaison Officer.”

Ms Male said the lease will complete a trifecta of recent police infrastructure for the area.

“The Beattie Government is funding the three-stage upgrade of the Caboolture Police Station, we have purchased land for a new police station at Burpengary and we are now fulfilling a commitment to establish a district police headquarters in Caboolture,” Ms Male said.

“These new facilities will help our police to address the rapid population growth in the area, and increase the local police presence on the Bruce.

“This is about planning ahead – and ensuring the safety of our communities for years to come.”

Ms Spence said the Beattie Government has been steadily increasing police numbers and infrastructure in the fast-growing community.

“In the North Coast Region, which takes in the Caboolture area, the Beattie Government has increased police officer numbers from 805 when we were elected in 1998, to 1232 today,” Ms Spence said.

“That is an increase of 35 percent more police.

“With more police on the beat than ever before, and the changes in modern policing functions, we are focussing on ensuring Queensland’s police have the best possible infrastructure, resources and support to work with the community in fighting crime.”
