The Honourable Judy Spence

The State Government has spent $550,000 on the purchase of a residence in Chinchilla to help alleviate rental accommodation problems experienced by police who are posted to the community.

Police Minister Judy Spence said the brand new duplex, which has three bedrooms on each side, would be used to provide short and long-term accommodation options to local officers.

“In addition to the station barracks, this is the second police residence purchased by the State Government for officers based in Chinchilla,” Ms Spence said.

“The property is in a central location in the township, and is close to the police station.

“This is very important, as officers who are on call when the police station is closed are still well-situated in the community to provide an immediate response.”

Ms Spence said improving police housing has been one of her major focuses.

“Many officers are sent to western Queensland in their first regional posting after being inducted into the police service,” Ms Spence said.

“This new residence means the police service can now provide accommodation for officers who are posted to the region from other areas of Queensland.”

Ms Spence said she would continue to work with the Queensland Police Service and Queensland Police Union of Employees to ensure police have the appropriate infrastructure and resources to continue their fight against crime.
