MEDIA ALERT: Official commissioning of South Brisbane Maritime Museum Dry Dock

Minister for Public Works, Housing and Information and Communication Technology Robert Schwarten and the Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Infrastructure Anna Bligh, Member for South Brisbane will commission the South Brisbane Dry Dock tomorrow.

In 1998 the century-old caisson at the mouth of the South Brisbane Dry Dock rusted through, allowing river water to enter the dry dock and float the historic World War II warship HMAS Diamantina off her keel blocks.

A $3 million project to replace the original caisson was funded and managed by the Department of Public Works.
