The Honourable Rod Welford
NEW BILOELA CAMPUS FOR CENTRAL QUEENSLAND TAFE
Central Queensland Institute of TAFE’s new $1.35 million Biloela Campus has been completed and is welcoming its first students this week.
Minister for Education and Training, Rod Welford, said today investment in TAFE infrastructure was a core component of the $1.1 billion Queensland Skills Plan.
“This investment in the Callide Dawson region is an example of the Queensland Skills Plan in action - we are expanding regional TAFE facilities to meet Queensland’s skilling needs,” Mr Welford said.
“Our TAFE Queensland campuses need to provide learning environments that are responsive to the needs of industry and population changes.
“This new building will provide a dynamic, state-of-the-art learning environment which will benefit the local community.”
Mr Welford said the State Government had contributed $750,000 towards the cost of the new facility, with the Commonwealth providing $600,000.
The new building includes one classroom and two computer rooms housing Internet and videolink facilities, and student and staff facilities including a common room and teachers’ and administration staff room.
Mr Welford said the variety of training options and delivery methods offered by the institute would ensure students had improved access to the many services offered.
“This campus is centrally located in Biloela and easily accessible,” he said.
“It will further enable the Central Queensland TAFE to meet the community needs for high-quality training services well into the future.
“As we celebrate the commencement of this new campus, I also want to thank CS Energy for allowing Central Queensland TAFE to use their facilities in the past.”
