Minister for Police and Corrective Services
The Honourable Judy Spence
SPENCE: MESSENGER PUTS HIS FOOT IN IT - AGAIN
Corrective Services Minister Judy Spence has once again had to correct false and misleading comments by Rob Messenger – this time about a Queensland prison.
Ms Spence said there that nursing staff are rostered at Capricornia Correctional Centre this weekend, despite Mr Messenger’s spurious claims in a media release today.
“The General Manager Capricornia Correctional Centre has confirmed that a Registered Nurse is rostered for duty on night shift tonight, and nursing staff are also rostered all weekend,” Ms Spence said.
“Once again Mr Messenger has refused to contact me to check his facts, and has run to the media with inaccurate information.
“He has previously got police numbers wrong, and now he’s shown that he’s making errors in corrective services issues.
“Perhaps Mr Messenger should spend some time getting better acquainted with his portfolio before taking pot shots – and missing the target.”
Ms Spence said contingency plans exist at all Correctional Centres in Queensland to ensure prisoners receive appropriate medical attention at all times, which includes alerting local ambulance and hospital services.
