$1.7 million power boost for Eimeo and Blacks Beach
The installation of an additional high voltage feeder has marked the start of the next phase of a $1.7 million project to upgrade power supply to the Eimeo and BlacksBeach area in the Mackay/Whitsunday region.
Minister for Mines and Energy Geoff Wilson said specialist crews had started running underground cable into recently installed conduits.
“The project has progressed smoothly since it began in September and customers can expect to enjoy the benefits by the end of the month,” Mr Wilson said.
“The final stage of the upgrade will be the connection of the underground cables to the existing distribution network, which is expected to be done without interruption to supply,” he said.
Member for Whitsunday Jan Jarratt said the cables would run from the Planella substation to Alan Nash Court.
“The excellent cooperation between Ergon Energy, Mackay City Council, Main Roads and the local businesses and residents have all contributed towards the progress of this important upgrade,” Ms Jarratt said.
“Ergon Energy has received strong community support and I want to thank the community for their support.”
“All work associated with the project occurred without interruption to customer’s supply,” she said.
Ms Jarratt said heavy machinery would still be working in the area.
“In the interests of public safety, pedestrians should continue to heed any warning signs and stay well clear of any fenced and secured work sites,” she said.
The project is part of a $77 million capital works program Ergon Energy is undertaking across the Mackay region this year.
