The Honourable John Mickel

The $800 million Kelvin Grove Urban Village celebrates a milestone this week with the launch of its Business Association.

Minister for State Development John Mickel officially launched the Kelvin Grove Urban Village Business Association this morning on the third anniversary of Premier Peter Beattie officially opening the award-winning urban renewal project.

“The 16.7 hectare site is being transformed into a dynamic mixed-use development that rivals the best major urban renewal projects in Australia and the world, “ Mr Mickel said.

“The Village is a joint initiative of the State Government, through the Department of Housing, with the Queensland University of Technology, and includes a range of housing, education, health, retail, recreation, community and business facilities.

“The driving force behind the new Business Association is project director, Bill Grant, who started the successful South Bank Business Association in 1999.

“The Association will play a very active role in the marketing, promotion and future development of the Urban Village,” Mr Mickel said.

The Village now includes QUT’s Creative Industries Precinct containing La Boite’s 400-seat Roundhouse Theatre, the Brisbane Housing Company’s two residential complexes, QUT’s Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation and Indigo’s $120 million Village Centre.

There’s also construction underway or planned on more housing developments, including townhouses, student accommodation, retirement living and commercial developments such as Citimark’s six-storey office building – Synergy - and CRI Australia and QUT’s commercial and educational development opposite the Creative Industries Precinct.
