Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Infrastructure
The Honourable Anna Bligh

Acting Premier Anna Bligh will hold a public forum on the proposed Wyaralong Dam in Boonah on Friday, November 17.

Ms Bligh invited property owners affected by the proposed dam and other members of the local community to attend the forum at the Boonah Show Society Grounds.

“The dam is a key part of the Government’s comprehensive water strategy and it’s important that landowners impacted by the dam and the communities of Beaudesert and Boonah have the opportunity to hear first-hand from me about the project – they deserve no less,” she said.

“I’m keen to address any issues residents may have and to help allay any concerns about the proposed dam.

“Members of Queensland Water Infrastructure – the company delivering the dam – and the Community Futures Taskforce, as well as other Government officers will also be on hand to speak with landowners about their individual circumstances.

“I’d like to reassure property owners that while the Government is prepared to buy land needed for the dam now, there will be no moves to compulsorily acquire properties until the project has received the relevant State and Federal approvals.”

Ms Bligh urged people attending the meeting to be respectful of each person’s right to have their say and be heard.

“I understand there are some strong feelings about the proposed dam.

“I want people to walk away from this meeting with the answers they want and a greater understanding of the project and what the next steps in the process are.”

The proposed dam will be located on Teviot Brook, 14 kilometres north-west of Beaudesert in the Logan River catchment, and supply up to 21,000 megalitres per annum, operating with Cedar Grove Weir, when completed in 2011.

The public forum will be held at Boonah Show Society Grounds, Cossart Street, at 9.30am on Friday November 17.
