The Beattie Government has doubled the number of applications it is processing each day for government rebates for water tanks, pool covers and other water-saving devices.
Natural Resources and Water Minister Craig Wallace said up to 400 applications were now being processed each day – up from 200 just a week ago.
Mr Wallace said the relocation of processing staff in the one building had lead to the 100% increase.
Daily processing rates are expected to climb by a further 150% - to 1000 - by late next month.
“The government has been flooded with rebate applications under the Home WaterWise Rebate Scheme,” Mr Wallace said.
“The scheme is riding a wave of popularity because south-east Queenslanders are passionate about conserving our water resources,” he said.
“The government believes so strongly in this scheme that Premier Peter Beattie announced on November 1 that it will go statewide, so all Queenslanders benefit.”
Around $22.8 million worth of applications have been received by the government with $4.2 million of those applications approved so far.
Centralising processing staff in the one location from the end of last month has resulted in a doubling in daily applications processed – from 200 to 400.
To further increase rebate payments, 42 full-time processing staff will be increased to 70 by mid next month and 90 by the end of the month, allowing daily approval rates of 1000.
Mr Wallace said future Queenslanders would praise current Queenslanders for their foresight in installing water-saving devices.
The Home WaterWise Rebate Scheme offers rebates including up to $1000 for water tanks, $200 for 4-star or better water-rated washing machines and $150 for dual-flush toilets.
