A $6 million upgrade to the Energex network in Ningi is on track and on target to be completed by mid next year.

Minister for Mines and Energy Geoff Wilson inspected the site today with Member for Pumicestone Carryn Sullivan.

“A new substation is being built off Carmody Lane and it will increase the capacity of electricity supply in the region,” Mr Wilson said.

“Powerlines will also be upgraded as part of the $6 million project.

“The upgrade will provide the local community with a more reliable electricity supply,” he said.

Member for Pumicestone Carryn Sullivan said more than 15,000 residents and businesses in Ningi, Toorbul, Bribie Island, Meldale, Donnybrook, Beachmere and Caboolture stand to benefit from the upgrade.

“It’s good news for the local community and I thank them for their support and cooperation while work is being carried out,” Ms Sullivan said.

Mrs Sullivan said that most of work would be carried out on the substation site.

“Energex has recently undertaken a $4.5 million upgrade of the Morayfield North substation which will service other parts of the electorate,” she said.

The Energex distribution area of 25,000 square kilometres includes almost 50,000km of underground and overhead electricity lines and cables, over half a million power poles, some 40,000 transformers and more than 260,000 street lights.
