LONDON: Premier and Minister for Trade Peter Beattie has completed a successful round of trade talks in the United Kingdom and is now en route to Monaco and Italy.
While in the UK, Mr Beattie attended the signing of a Statement of Intent between Delfin Lend Lease and Schneider Electric to establish the world’s first Environmental Business Cluster.
Mr Beattie said the cluster will be a major enterprise precinct in the 2014-hectare Yarrabilba community which is proposed for the Beaudesert Shire.
“This exciting project will put Queensland on the world map,” he said.
“Yarrabilba will be a AUS $4 billion community and a global showpiece for sustainable development.
“It will be Australia’s premier precinct for the environmental services industry, creating jobs and world-class research and development.
“Having Schneider Electric on board is a major development. Based in France, it’s a leader in providing electrical solutions for commercial, industrial and residential applications.”
Queensland’s Department of State Development and Trade has promoted the Environmental Business Cluster which will now undergo detailed assessment and will be required to meet State and local government planning regulations.
Mr Beattie also used the UK trade visit to ramp-up Queensland’s recruitment campaign for doctors.
Other developments included the signing of an agreement with the Yorkshire Regional Development Agency to pursue joint trade and investment opportunities in the lead up to the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympics.
Mr Beattie last night donated significant artworks to the British Museum which houses one of the world’s largest collections of human cultural history.
The Premier said he was delighted the museum has added the works of acclaimed Queensland Indigenous artists Fiona Foley and Dennis Nona to the collection.
