Emerald is set to benefit from a $1.9 million power upgrade that is expected to be finished in time for the busy Christmas period.
Minister for Mines and Energy Geoff Wilson said the upgrade which began in October includes a new feeder bay at Emerald’s zone substation and high voltage powerlines.
“There will be a new feeder bay at the Emerald zone substation providing the source of high voltage power into the northern parts of Emerald,” Mr Wilson said.
“New sections of lines have been created and an upgrade of existing infrastructure will ensure extra power is delivered to northern Emerald.
“Around 80% of the construction and line works is already finished.
“Residents may have seen crews at work along Gladstone Street, Gray Street, White Street, Roberts Street, Opal Street and Codenwarra Road in recent weeks.
“New high voltage lines were put underground at the railway crossing near Opal Street and along part of Clermont Street.
“The expansion will account for an expected load growth in the future.
“The upgrades are part of Ergon Energy’s $3.2 billion, five year plan to enhance reliability and deliver increased electricity network capacity for people who live and work in regional Queensland,” he said.
Demand for electricity on Ergon Energy’s network has increased by around 5.4 per cent a year due to strong economic growth and an increasing in population throughout Queensland.
