The Honourable Tim Mulherin
The Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries unique Ambassador Program today celebrated another milestone with nine ambassadors from across Queensland gathering in Brisbane for the first group meeting.
Primary Industries and Fisheries Minister Tim Mulherin said the Ambassador Program recognised the contribution of Queensland’s primary industries champions.
“Ever since the Department’s inception in 1887, there have been individuals who have had a real impact through their commitment and efforts in strengthening food and agriculture industries,” Mr Mulherin said.
“Through the DPI&F Ambassador Program we recognise the efforts of such people and formalise their role as a local point of contact for industry and other stakeholders to raise important issues.
“This is another way that DPI&F promotes profitable primary industries - by encouraging valuable industry and community feedback and providing industry and stakeholders with high profile leaders with whom to discuss critical issues.
“I invited all 11 of our ambassadors from all corners of Queenslandto gather in Brisbaneto meet with one another and share their experiences and their vision for the future of primary industries in their communities.
“They will also hold meetings with senior departmental staff, provide feedback from their regions and discuss how to most effectively fulfil their role.
“Ten of the 11 ambassadors have been able to attend.’’
The ambassadors are: Wendy Erhardt, Proprietor Withcott Seedlings; Bruce Scott, Mayor Barcoo Shire Council; John Wharton, Mayor Richmond Shire Council; Leeanne Gangemi, Client Services Manager Ballandean Estate; Mike Brunker, Mayor Bowen Shire Council; Alison Alexander, Food consultant; Tom Woods, Mayor Waggamba Shire Council; Mark O'Brien, Mayor Murweh Shire Council; Lyn O’Connor, Dairy farmer and Regional Coordinator of the Dairy Moving Forward; Peter Milne, Director Animal Health Australia and Food Standards Australia New Zealand; Graham Davies, Chair Queensland Rural Adjustment Authority Board and Mackay Port Authority.
