Minister for Environment and Multiculturalism
The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
Environment Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr said extra staff had been committed to the search for crocodiles off Townsville.
Ms Nelson-Carr said Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) officers were taking reports of crocodile sightings around Townsville seriously and this afternoon had committed additional officers to help search for the reptiles.
“As of this afternoon, officers from conservation services and marine parks in Townsville will join QPWS officers already undertaking searches off The Strand.
“The additional officers will work around the clock over the next day or so in a bid to determine whether the crocs were passing through or living close to the area.”
Ms Nelson-Carr said QPWS officers were yet to see a crocodile and were acting on reports from locals and surf lifesavers.
“If spotted, the officers will determine the best method of removal.”
