Premier and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Peter Beattie

Premier Peter Beattie announced this afternoon that the Member for Thuringowa, Craig Wallace had been elected as a new Minister in the Queensland Cabinet.

Mr Beattie said Caucus had also elected the Member for Stafford, Stirling Hinchliffe as a new Parliamentary Secretary.

He said their respective portfolios and the appointment of the new Attorney-General would be announced tomorrow in Parliament followed by an official swearing-in ceremony at Government House on Wednesday.

The reshuffle follows the resignation of former Attorney-General Linda Lavarch.

‘I am extremely pleased for Craig and Stirling,” Mr Beattie said.

“Craig was elected in 2004 and is a hard working local member and terrific representative for North Queensland.

“He has a good grasp of the issues affecting regional communities and recognises the valuable role they can play in the continuing growth and prosperity of our State.

“In addition he has played a key role on a number of important committees including the Public Accounts Committee and the Impact of Petrol Pricing Select Committee.

“He has knowledge and experience and I am sure he will do a terrific job.”

Mr Beattie said Stirling Hinchcliffe had been elected as the Member for Stafford at the recent State election.

“Stirling is new to Parliament but he has experience across government and the private sector,” Mr Beattie said.

“His new role will be an important step in his career and provide him with the opportunity to travel around the State listening to matters that concern Queenslanders and working with Ministers and agencies to help address them.”
