Minister for Health
The Honourable Stephen Robertson

A new $13.17 million nursing home, fully funded by the Beattie Government, is providing improved care and a better living environment for Roma’s elderly residents, Health Minister Stephen Robertson said today.

Mr Robertson officially opened the Westhaven Aged Care Facility during his visit to Roma.

He said the facility, which began operating last month, would cater for up to 40 residents and cost more than $2 million a year to run.

“The facility was based on a very modern design which meets the needs of residents and staff,” Mr Robertson said.

“High priority was placed on privacy and comfort with every resident having their own suite in a safe and secure environment.

“Another important feature of the project is that about 70 per cent of the subcontractors used by the builder came from the region.

“This ensures the area not only benefits from the facility but also shares in the economic rewards that come from the project’s construction.”

Mr Robertson said different staff rostering practices were being introduced at Westhaven to appropriately cater for the number of residents and the services required.

“We cannot put a dollar value on the high quality of care Westhaven’s staff provide to the residents,” he said.

“Staff at this facility are exceptional people and their concern for residents is always paramount.”
