The Honourable John Mickel

Businesses in Cyclone Larry-affected regions can learn how to prepare for challenges and risks in a series of free seminars run by the Queensland Government.

State Development Minister John Mickel said as part of the recovery and continuity for businesses affected by Cyclone Larry, the Department of State Development and Trade would partner with Pacifica Chartered Accountants to deliver seven Risk Management workshops throughout the region in November and December.

“The free workshops are designed to give business owners an understanding of the risk management process and explain how to develop strategies to manage and reduce potential risks they may face,” Mr Mickel said.

“Most businesses in Far North Queensland were affected by Cyclone Larry in some way, so we welcome any business that wants to attend these workshops to better prepare for future challenges that may arise.

“The free two-hour sessions will be held in Innisfail, Cairns, Atherton, Kurrimine Beach, Tully, Mission Beach and Mareeba from 2 November to 4 December.

“The interactive sessions are presented by a specialist who will equip businesses with the tools to assess risks and incorporate risk planning and better business management into their organisation.”

Mr Mickel said participants would walk away with a greater understanding of how to establish goals and objectives, and begin action planning to address potential risks identified.

“The free workshop is basically a hands on way for business people to identify, analyse, assess and plan for critical threats, and apply risk management principles to their own circumstances for greater business security.”
