The Honourable John Mickel

Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations John Mickel congratulated the winners of the inaugural Queensland Work Safe Awards at an industry function at Parliament House this morning.

Mr Mickel presented winners with trophies and certificates recognising Queensland businesses with outstanding safety records.

“It is the right of every worker to leave home in the morning confident they will return from their workplace to their families at the end of the day safe and uninjured.”

“Everyone has a role in making our workplaces safer and healthier, this mornings winners are all to be congratulated for rising to the challenge and demonstrating their commitment to workplace health and safety,” he said.

Winning a Work Safe Award can also have a positive impact on workforce morale and corporate pride as well as promoting a positive image to the local community.

Work Safe Week is the culmination of a month long advertising and awareness campaign focusing attention on the importance of putting safety first to reduce workplace injuries and deaths.

The Queensland Awards are linked to the Australian Safety and Compensation Council's Safe Work Australia Awards, Australian Country Choice and BM Alliance Coal Operations Pty Ltd are now eligible to enter the national awards.

“This is an opportunity for these two local businesses to represent Queensland and have the chance to get their achievements recognised nationally,” Mr Mickel said.
