Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries
The Honourable Tim Mulherin
Minister for Primary industries and Fisheries Tim Mulherin has officially launched a key facet of the Blueprint for the Bush, the focus of which will be the appointment of up to 20 officers to accelerate the development of property management systems.
“The Property Management Systems Initiative is a State Government initiative, led by the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries to improve the productivity and sustainability of primary industries in partnership with industry and natural resource management organisations and state agencies,’’ Mr Mulherin said.
“The Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries has been working in partnership with AgForce, the Queensland Farmers Federation and the Natural Resource Management Regional Groups Collective to develop the initiative.
“It is a key commitment under the Blueprint for the Bush and will contribute to the Queensland Government meeting its obligations under the Farm Management Systems Memorandum of Understanding with QFF and the Reef Water Quality Protection Plan.’’
Mr Mulherin said Property Management Systems would encompass the development and implementation of business management systems at the enterprise or property level focussed on continuous improvement in practices which to achieve improved outcomes in profitability and sustainability.
“The Property Management Systems Initiative aims to increase the adoption of voluntary Property Management Systems approaches on-farm in partnership with industry and other key stakeholders.
“Its focus is at the enterprise or property level to increase landholders’ bottom line while also credibly demonstrating sustainable natural resource management.
“Partnerships developed through this initiative will demonstrate the benefits of government, industry and NRM groups working together towards agreed shared goals to improve profitability and natural resource management.’’
Mr Mulherin said the operating principles for PMSI have been agreed by state agencies and peak industry bodies.
“The Department is now calling for expressions of interest from industry, regional natural resource management groups and other interested parties.
“The key outcome of this initiative is the appointment of up to 20 officers to accelerate the development of property management systems and related initiatives on-farm, with a focus on achieving practice change for profitability and sustainability outcomes. ‘’
Stakeholders have five weeks to develop proposals which will then be considered by DPI&F for further development.
The operating principles, guidelines and Expression of Interest application form are available on the DPI&F website: dpi.qld.gov.au or can be obtained through the DPI&F business centre on 13 23 25.
