Minister for Emergency Services
The Honourable Pat Purcell

Emergency Services Minister Pat Purcell, Livingstone Shire Mayor Bill Ludwig and Ergon Energy regional services manager Geoff Hall today officially opened the new headquarters of the Yeppoon unit of the State Emergency Service (SES).

The new $380,000 building, in McBean Street, Yeppoon, is adjacent to the local combined ambulance and fire station.

Mr Purcell thanked Cr Ludwig and the Livingstone Shire Council for their commitment to the project.

Mr Purcell also thanked Ergon Energy, which donated the land for the new building.

Mr Purcell said the headquarters would be a great benefit for SES volunteers and for the local community.

“I would like to thank the Member for Keppel, Paul Hoolihan, for his ongoing commitment to this project, and to emergency services in the region,” Mr Purcell said.

Mr Hoolihan said: “I’m delighted that the hard-working SES volunteers in the Yeppoon area now have a dedicated, state-of-the-art facility.

“SES volunteers have a vital role caring for the safety and wellbeing of the public in responding to disasters and assisting other emergency services personnel. These people give their time and effort to assist others, including in demanding and dangerous conditions,” Mr Hoolihan said.

“It’s important they have the right facilities and the new SES headquarters will be a great addition. The new building has space for equipment and vehicles, office space, a kitchenette and toilet and shower facilities.

“The SES unit Livingtsone Shire provides assistance across the region, and has groups based in EmuPark, Etna Creek, Keppel Sands, Marlborough, Yaamba and Yeppoon. These volunteers have an invaluable role in land search, vertical rescue, storm damage operations, flood boat operations, and welfare support for SES colleagues and other emergency services personnel in the field,” Mr Hoolihan concluded.
