Premier and Minister for Trade Peter Beattie has announced Dan Hunt has been appointed Acting Director-General of the new Department of Mines and Energy.
The Premier said Mr Hunt has a wealth of experience in the Queensland public service.
“Mr Hunt was Deputy Director-General of the Transport Department where he worked closely with Government-owned corporations such as Queensland Rail and Queensland’s port authorities,” Mr Beattie said.
“Dan brings strong management skills to the position. He was a direct manager of the divisions of rail, ports and freight, maritime safety, land transport and safety, and service delivery with more than 2,000 staff reporting to him.”
Minister for Mines and Energy Geoff Wilson said Mr Hunt would bring a new vitality into the newly formed Department.
“He has considerable experience in policy development and infrastructure issues associated with the mining industry,” Mr Wilson said.
In 2004, Mr Hunt was the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Energy in its first six months as a stand-alone department.
“During this time, Mr Hunt was closely involved with the implementation of the Electricity Distribution Service Delivery – the Somerville Report – the Government’s response to improving electricity distribution during the summer months.”
The Premier paid tribute to outgoing Director-General Scott Flavell who is pursuing new business interests.
“Mr Flavell had taken a decision some time ago that he wanted to pursue a new career and I respect his decision and wish him well,” Mr Beattie said.
“He has had a long involvement in energy reform over the past decade and I have appreciated his support in ensuring an orderly transition in the new Department.”
Mr Hunt will take up the position on Thursday, October 19.
