The Honourable Rod Welford
The next generation of Queensland softball stars converge on Rockhampton on Thursday for the Queensland School Sport 12 years-and-under softball state championships.
Teams from across Queensland will contest the championships at the Rockhampton Softball Association Fields from Thursday 19 October until Sunday 22 October.
Education Minister, Rod Welford, said more than 140 students would be batting, pitching and catching over the four days.
“These budding softball stars have been selected from thousands of hopefuls to represent their sporting region at state level,” Mr Welford said.
"I want to congratulate each of the young athletes on their selection and wish them every success, both on and off the diamond.
"It's a great opportunity for these students to compete at a high level while meeting and sharing experiences with their peers from across the state.
"I also want to thank the dedicated teachers, school staff and parents who have given considerable time and effort to ensure the championships are a success."
All 12 of Queensland's sporting regions will be represented at this year's championships – Capricornia (host region), Darling Downs, Metropolitan East, Metropolitan North, Metropolitan West, North Western, Northern, Peninsula, South Coast, South Western, Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay.
The presentation ceremony will be held on the final day of the championships (Sunday 22 October) at approximately 12.30pm.
At the conclusion of the championships, a state side will be selected to represent Queensland at the School Sport Australia Exchange in Melbourne from 19 to 24 November.
