The Honourable Margaret Keech
Tourism Queensland’s new flagship website has won a global award for outstanding achievement, Tourism Minister Margaret Keech announced today.
Mrs Keech said the www.queenslandholidays.com.au website was selected from nominations received from 33 countries and was one of 15 Outstanding Websites in the world in the travel industry category, according to the Web Marketing Association in its 10th annual WebAwards competition.
“Other winners in the travel category included websites promoting the Hilton Hotel, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and Yellowstone Park, so clearly we are very much in a world-class league,” Mrs Keech said.
“In designing its new-look website, which was launched in June, Tourism Queensland used the latest in experience-based web architecture that recognises and interprets how visitors want to research and book their holiday.
“In addition, this website truly reflects the beauty of holidaying in Queensland by using video, audio and stunning images to showcase our unique tourism destinations.
“The WebAwards recognise people and organisations responsible for developing some of the most effective websites on the internet today and are judged by a professional panel of experts who study seven critieria: design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, copywriting and ease of use.
“I would like to congratulate the team at Tourism Queensland for this tremendous achievement.
“Their aim was to produce Australia’s best destination and holiday site and given the outstanding consumer response to date, as well as this latest international award, they have certainly achieved success beyond expectations.”
Mrs Keech encouraged people wanting to know more about travel in Queensland to visit www.queenslandholidays.com.au.
