Minister for Tourism, Fair Trading and Wine Industry Development
The Honourable Margaret Keech
Gold Coast nightclubs will be exempted from the statewide 3am lockout during the Lexmark Indy 300 carnival, Liquor Licensing Minister Margaret Keech said today.
Mrs Keech said special Liquor Act provisions relating to exempting specific areas from the lockout, would apply in the Gold Coast Council area during Indy (October 19-22).
“The Beattie Government recognises the Lexmark Indy Carnival as a special event warranting special arrangements and this is why we included the provision for exemptions when we amended the Act,” Mrs Keech said.
“We are confident that with the deployment of additional police, liquor licensing officers, security personnel along with detailed event management strategies the Gold Coast is well equipped to manage the huge influx of visitors for this event.
“Licensees on the Gold Coast overall have demonstrated a responsible approach to alcohol management during recent Indy carnivals, and that is why we have relaxed the law again this year.
“Licensees who have applied for and been granted special permits will also be able to enjoy extended trading hours, from 5am to 7am, on each day of the carnival.”
