The Honourable John Mickel

The Queensland Government’s Australian Institute for Commercialisation based at Eight Mile Plains was established as a Smart State initiative in 2002, to convert the excellent work being done by our researchers into social and economic capital.

Following an announcement today, the Victorian Government will provide $2.6 million to the (AIC) to help Victorian businesses access Australian research and development.

Queensland Minister for State Development John Mickel said since its initial seeding and formation the AIC had become a leading service organisation helping innovators across both Queensland and Australia achieve commercial success.

He said “through its TechFast program the AIC would play an important role in helping Victorian companies find and adopt new technologies developed in Australia’s research organisations”.

The program fills the market gap between university research and technology and the needs of small to medium enterprises.

“Many SMEs know their markets and have identified niches, but often struggle to find the research, technologies and developments from which they can benefit,” Mr Mickel said.

“TechFast matches relevant technologies or intellectual property developed in research organisations to the requirements of small business”.

“TechFast ensures that Australian companies improve their commercialisation skills and benefit from Australian R&D instead of going overseas”, Mr Mickel said.

The Queensland Victorian AIC partnership is another important step forward and will build a critical mass of technology commercialisation skills for the benefit of all Australian companies
