PREMIER CALLS ON QUEENSLANDERS TO ‘MONOPOLISE’ SMART STATE

Premier and Minister for Trade
The Honourable Peter Beattie
Queenslanders have the opportunity to decide which Smart State icons could feature on a new version of the Monopoly board game - Australia: Here and Now.
Board Game company Hasbro has asked Australian Premiers to nominate five iconic places to include in an online promotion where voters will decide the top three from each state to feature on the board game.
Mr Beattie said the task was a difficult one.
“Queensland is a state full of iconic places, and trying to narrow it to a list of five is not an easy task,” he said.
“I’m calling on my fellow Queenslanders to help me with my decision by writing to me or sending an email with their ideas.”
Mr Beattie said he would make his nominations based on the suggestions he received and encouraged everyone to take part.
“This is a great opportunity to make Queensland icons a piece of Monopoly history, and who wouldn’t like to own one of our tropical islands or the XXXX Brewery with a roll of the dice?!”
Some examples of iconic Queensland places or landmarks could include: Australia Zoo, Big Pineapple, Cape York, Capricorn Caves, Carnarvon Gorge, Chillagoe, Coolangatta, Daintree, Dreamworld, Emerald Gemfields, Fraser Island, Granite Belt, Great Barrier Reef, Lang Park, Lawn Hill National Park, Magnetic Island, Moreton Bay, Mossman Gorge, Mt Isa mines, Riversleigh Fossil Fields, South Bank and the Goodwill Bridge, Stockman's Hall of Fame, Surfers Paradise, Toowoomba gardens, Torres Strait Islands, Tree of Knowledge, Whitsundays and the XXXX Brewery.
Submit your suggestions to the Premier by email at ThePremier@premiers.qld.gov.au or by post to PO Box 15185, City East 4002.
Submissions close Monday, 23 October 2006.
