Socceroos fans score with free public transport

Socceroos fans will be on a winner even before kick-off at this Saturday’s game against Paraguay, with free bus and train travel for ticket-holders heading to Suncorp Stadium, Minister for Transport and Main Roads Paul Lucas said today.

Mr Lucas said ticket holders could leave their cars at home and take advantage of the free bus and train services to and from Suncorp Stadium.

“The match between the Socceroos and Paraguay is a much anticipated game and free travel will make it even easier to see all the action,” Mr Lucas said.

“All patrons have to do is show their current game ticket or membership ticket to gain free travel from noon on game-day on Brisbane Transport bus or QR Citytrain services.”

To make it even easier to get to the game there will also be extra buses, including special shuttle routes from Carindale, Eight Mile Plains, Chermside, The Gap and the city, to deliver fans up to the gates.

“All shuttles start two and half hours before kick off – so there’s plenty of time to get to the game early to meet friends and find your seats,” Mr Lucas said.

“TransLink will also make it even easier to get home with special Transport staff on hand after the game to help patrons locate their bus service.”

The deal does not apply to BCC ferry and CityCat services or other TransLink operators.

Mr Lucas said the free travel offer is in conjunction with the normal traffic and transport plan for Suncorp Stadium, to encourage people to leave their cars at home and let TransLink take them to the game and back.

"Before free public transport was introduced for Suncorp games, less than 20% of patrons travelled there by public transport – now it is consistently more than 80%.”
