$30M paid in vegetation management assistance

The Queensland Government has paid more than $30 million in vegetation management assistance to landholders, Natural Resources and Water Minister Kerry Shine said today.

Mr Shine said the Queensland Government was providing grants of up to $100,000 for landholders affected by vegetation management laws under the Enterprise Assistance program.

“To date, $31.2 million has been allocated to more than 360 applicants for the grants of up to $100,000,” Mr Shine said.

“The average grant is more than $85,000.”

“Over the last two months, almost $10 million in assistance has been allocated to an additional 110 landholders.”

Mr Shine said anyone who was considering applying should contact Government’s rural and regional assistance provider QRAA.

QRAA client liaison officers and staff of the Department of Natural Resources and Water (NRW) are able to assist applicants. Eleven NRW staff have been assigned to help landholders progress their applications for assistance.

“The grants are available to assist producers adjust their operations where implementation of vegetation management legislation affects the potential viability of their farming enterprise,” Mr Shine said.

Enterprise Assistance will enable successful applicants to build up or develop their farm business to achieve long term viability and sustainability.

Broad-scale clearing of remnant vegetation will end of 31 December this year.
