Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Infrastructure
The Honourable Anna Bligh
Joint statement
Acting Premier Anna Bligh and Sport Minister Andrew Fraser today urged all Queenslanders to show some home-grown support by joining a city parade and Suncorp Stadium showcase to salute the Broncos.
Ms Bligh said a Welcome Home and Victory Parade would be staged in Brisbane on Wednesday, followed by a special event with our Grand Final’s favourite sons at Suncorp Stadium to commemorate their sensational Grand Final victory last night.
“They have done us proud and I am anticipating that will be reflected by the number of people who will come out to show their support on Wednesday,” Ms Bligh said.
“This was a magnificent result especially when you consider that some people had written the team off throughout the year,” she said.
Mr Fraser said last night’s win saw Wayne Bennett become the Most Successful NRL Coach ever by beating the Melbourne Storm.
“It’s a Queensland dream-come-true story and I urge everyone to get out there and give the guys a hand and show them how proud we are,” he said.
Wednesday’s event will start with the parade in the city at 8.30am.
The team members will thank their loyal fans during the parade through the Queen Street Mall, followed by a civic reception at City Hall, for invited guests.
The team will then travel to Suncorp Stadium at 10.30am where they will greet fans.
Ms Bligh said free shuttle bus services would be available to fans to travel to the Stadium.
Gates at the stadium will be open from 9.30am and admission will be free.
