Minister for Emergency Services
The Honourable Pat Purcell

Volunteers from the Pine Rivers State Emergency Service unit have been honoured with the presentation of awards and medals at a ceremony in Strathpine tonight.

Emergency Services Minister Pat Purcell presented 12 volunteers with National Medals and Meritorious Service awards. A list of recipients is attached.

Mr Purcell congratulated all the volunteers on their awards.

“The volunteers have given a combined total of more than 190 years of service,” Mr Purcell said.

“That’s a great achievement. The volunteers have given a tremendous commitment to the State Emergency Service and to their local community.

“It is vitally important that people who give long and faithful service to looking after the safety and wellbeing of other Queenslanders receive recognition for their efforts.

“SES volunteers are always ready to help out in a time of need, such as during storms and floods and to search for missing persons.

“In addition, 32 Pine Rivers SES personnel travelled to Far North Queensland earlier this year to help in the relief effort for Tropical Cyclone Larry.”

Mr Purcell also thanked the Pine Rivers Shire Council for its support of the local SES unit, and the families of volunteers.

“The commitment of the State’s volunteers can put a burden on family life, but the support of families helps them continue to serve the community with such distinction.”
