The Department of Public Works has won two national Australian Institute of Project Management awards for its role in project management and construction of the Queensland Transplant Tissue Service building.
Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten today congratulated Project Services, a business unit of the Department of Public Works, on winning both the Project of the Year Award and the Construction Award at last night’s AIPM national finals in Sydney.
The Queensland Transplant Tissue Service, an Australian first in advanced bone banking, prepares human tissue for transplanting in cases of trauma injury, medical and surgical procedures.
Project Services worked closely with Queensland Health’s Capital Works and Asset Management Branch on the $12.3 million two-storey facility.
Mr Schwarten said winning the Project of the Year Award from such a strong field was a testimony to the project team’s ability to work collaboratively.
“Team members successfully came to terms with new and challenging issues and were able to research, develop and design solutions to deliver this technically-advanced facility,” the Minister said.
“To win the Construction Award further enhances the Department’s reputation as a leader in design and project management on some of the Queensland Government’s most innovative and exciting building projects,” he said.
“The success of this project is due to the approach, commitment and skills of the entire project team, including our client, Queensland Health, and the project’s contractors, Abigroup,” Mr Schwarten said.
It is the second year in a row Project Services has been awarded the national Institute of Project Management Construction Award, having won the same category last year for the Brisbane Magistrates Court project.
