Minister for Health
The Honourable Stephen Robertson
Bundaberg patients will receive faster diagnosis and the best possible treatment with a new $900,000 digital x-ray system installed at Bundaberg Base Hospital.
Health Minister Stephen Robertson inspected the new computerised radiography equipment today.
Mr Robertson said the new digital technology was now in use and had replaced traditional radiography equipment at the hospital.
“This upgrade ensures that Bundaberg has the same standard of equipment as metropolitan hospitals,” he said.
”The new technology will be used for more than 25,000 x-rays at Bundaberg Hospital every year.
“It is more than three times as fast as traditional x-rays with images available in less than 45 seconds; the images can be viewed by multiple doctors in different locations and can be sent via email.
“The x-ray image is converted to digital image file instead of film which can be relayed digitally to patients or specialists anywhere in the state.
“And it will save Bundaberg Hospital around $2000 a fortnight in film and development costs.”
Mr Robertson said the new computerised radiography equipment would also pave the way for further medical-communication technologies at Bundaberg Hospital.
“It will enable the delivery of online health services and will allow for tele-health applications such as transferring image files including x-rays, video consultations and staff training,” he said.
“It also supports the new CT Scanner installed at Bundaberg Hospital earlier this year.”
